At 11:55 a.m. CDT Aug. 21, Cory Stone, NASA solar system ambassador, gave the call for eclipse glasses to go on and excitement ensued. The moment for which campers at the 4-H Solar Eclipse Camp had been waiting had arrived.

The West Kentucky 4-H Camp in Dawson Springs is in the direct path of a total solar eclipse that will occur Aug. 21. Kentucky 4-H is taking this rare opportunity to host a Solar Eclipse Camp there so young people cannot only view the historical event but learn the science behind it.

The last time a total solar eclipse was viewable from the contiguous United States was in 1979, when it passed through the Northwest.

Ag Awareness Day at the Bowling Green Hot Rods baseball game is just one way  local extension staff are trying to educate their community about agriculture's importance.

The field day attracts some of the best and brightest middle school and high school students interested in pursuing agricultural-related majors and careers.
