UK to celebrate Ag Awareness Day

Ag Awareness Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 11.

LEXINGTON, Ky.—

University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment students and faculty and agricultural industry representatives, will come together April 11 to educate the community about the diverse industry of agriculture for Ag Awareness Day.

“This event is an opportunity for ag-related organizations and businesses to gather on UK’s campus to promote the importance of agriculture and its impact on our daily lives,” said Grace Higgs, junior agricultural and medical biotechnology student and college ambassador. “My peers and I appreciate our community partners, who join us each year to educate students, faculty and staff about their work and their invaluable contributions across the commonwealth.”

Ag Awareness Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the plaza area between Memorial Hall and Erikson Hall on the UK campus in Lexington.

“Wendell Berry’s quote, ‘Eating is an agricultural act,’ really drives home our objective for the event,” said Seth Ryker, marketing and communications manager for the college’s Center for Student Success. “Whether we know it or not, we are all invested in agriculture. Just as cows and plows are central to our work, so is fuel, medicine, clothing, urban design and many other things we take for granted.”
