LEXINGTON, Ky.—

The University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service is hosting a sewing workshop March 29 through 31 at the Kentucky Leadership Center in Jabez. The workshop, entitled “Come Sew with Us,” covers the fundamentals for beginners and will teach everything from sewing machine basics to home décor projects and clothing.“You don’t have to know how to sew to come to this event,” said Jennifer Klee, Woodford County Extension agent for family and consumer science. “Maybe you bought a new or used sewing machine and you’ve been afraid to even get it out of the box. This is for you. We will have classes that teach you how to operate a sewing machine and/or a serger. You take these classes before you move on to any of the project classes and you’re on your way. The classes also build confidence for those who already know how to sew and those who may have sewn years ago and are just now getting back into it.”After learning to thread a machine and sew a straight line, participants can choose several projects to complete during the three-day workshop including pillows, window toppers, purses, pajama bottoms, totes, a drawstring skirt, a peasant blouse, simple serger projects and quick gifts. Some classes take more than one session to complete.“It’s really incredible to see the progress of beginners in this three day period,” Klee said. “It really shows them that they can sew and finish a project that looks very nice.”Registration must be received by March 1 to ensure a spot. One-night lodging and registration is $85; two-night lodging and registration is $130. Make checks payable to Hardin County Homemakers and mail to Hardin County Cooperative Extension Office, 201 Peterson Drive, Elizabethtown, Ky., 42701.To see the brochure online, visit http://www.ca.uky.edu/fcs/CSWU_Jabez_brochure.pdf.
