4-H Dairy Show Teaches Care & Responsibility

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—

For Elydia Thomas showing dairy cattle is a family tradition. The 4-Her has been showing Jersey's for many years at the Kentucky State Fair. She says the responsibility can be tough at times, but it's all part of the experience.

"For the most part I like it, but it is hard getting up early in the morning to feed," said Elydia, an eleven-year-old from Taylor County.

Thomas's father, Wayne also showed dairy cattle when he was younger while a member of FFA.

"I encourage her to show cattle herself because of the responsibility that can be learned," said Thomas.

Elydia was a division winner in Jersey dairy showmanship, and her calf placed seventh at the Kentucky State Fair, which continues through August 27th in Louisville. She joins 258 4-H participants at the Dairy show. This show is just one of the many livestock events taking place during the State Fair.
