Family Fun Camp Planned at West Kentucky 4-H Camp

DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky.—

The West Kentucky 4-H Camp will host Family Fun Camp Oct. 12-14, with events centered around outdoor activities. “Any family looking for a chance to get away and spend quality time together should attend,” said Edie Flores, camp director. “Mother, father, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins are all welcome to be a part of this unique camping experience.”Some activities will center on the interests of individual family members while other activities will require family participation. Individual activities available to campers include basketball, volleyball, fishing, archery, climbing wall, parachute games, line dancing, crafts and silly games just for kids.Family activities include canoe races, with the winning family being recognized as “Rulers of the Lake,” and nature walks. Along the walks, families will face challenges to win points. The family with the most points will be honored at the end of camp.Each family will stay in individual one-room cabins with dormitory-style sleeping arrangements. There are men’s and women’s bathhouses on the camp ground.This is the first year West Kentucky 4-H Camp is hosting the family camp and organizers are excited about the opportunities it will provide families to spend time together, Flores said. In addition, there will be the opportunity for parents to meet in group discussions related to different issues involving parenting and understanding your children.Registration deadline for the camp is Oct. 2. Prices for the camp vary depending on family size. To obtain a registration form and for more information about the camp, visit the 4-H camp Web site or contact Flores at 270-797-8758.Adults staying overnight will have a background check prior to being in the campground with children. This policy is in place for all activities at the camp in an effort to ensure the safety of children and adults alike. If you already have one on file with the local University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service office please note this on the registration form.
