The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment recognizes and celebrates alumni and friends who have made a lasting impact on their chosen field, community and society. Nominations are open for the 2022 awards.  

“We are seeking alumni and friends of the college who have excelled and made significant contributions professionally, philanthropically or through volunteer service,” said Jonathan Furnish, executive director of the UK CAFE Alumni Association “So many of our alumni and friends make a difference in the world, but we are not always aware of it because they are located across the country and even the world.”

The Paul Appel Alumni Service award recognizes an individual who has provided extraordinary service to the UK CAFE Alumni Association. Appel was instrumental in starting alumni activities for the college. He was tasked by Dean Charles Barnhart in 1973 to update the alumni database and get alums back to campus one day each year. From his efforts, the annual Ag Roundup event started, and 15 geographical alumni chapters began across Kentucky. Nominations for the 2022 Night of Excellence awards are due Aug. 15. The ceremony is set for Feb. 25, 2022.
