UK Horse Racing Club to Host Thoroughbred Horse Trainers, Silent Auction

LEXINGTON, Ky.—

The University of Kentucky Horse Racing Club will host some of horse racing’s top trainers at “Inside Horse Racing: The Trainer’s View” at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in the Student Center Grand Ballroom. “The mission of the UK Horse Racing Club is to increase awareness among students about horse racing and to create opportunities for students to interact with professionals in the horse racing industry. This event will do just that,” said club advisor Laurie Lawrence, UK College of Agriculture professor and equine nutrition researcher. The event will feature Thoroughbred horse trainers Rebecca Maker, Kenny McPeek, Ron Moquett and John Ward in a panel discussion. These horse trainers will provide a unique look inside horse racing from a trainer’s perspective. A silent auction will also be hosted by the club with proceeds going to the Horse Racing Club and the Maker’s Mark Secretariat Center. “The program includes trainers of winners of the Kentucky Derby, The Breeders Cup and other great races. In addition they have invited some up-and-coming trainers, so there will be a wonderful variety of experiences,” Lawrence said.Industry sponsors included the Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Association, Juddmonte Farms, The Keeneland Association, Blood-Horse Publications, The Horse Racing Radio Network, Kentucky Equine Education Program (KEEP), Overbrook Farms, Thoroughbred Times and Vinery Farm. “Because it will be held at the student center, it will be accessible to students and to the general public. We hope for a large crowd,” Lawrence said.Student tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door. General admission is $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
