PRINCETON, Ky.—

University of Kentucky specialists are holding their first Wheat Field School of the year March 1 at the UK Research and Education Center Farm in Princeton. The school runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST.

The field schools are a series of in-depth, hands-on trainings led by UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment researchers. These trainings take place at critical production times throughout the year to help wheat producers navigate the decision-making process. The training is particularly geared toward crop advisers, managers, consultants and anyone else involved in wheat production.

Topics for the March 1 school will include assessing early-season crop condition, techniques for managing nitrogen, and weed identification and control options.

Certified Crop Advisers can receive the following continuing education units: 2.5 in soil and water, 1.5 in integrated pest management and two in crop management. Pesticide applicators can receive two general and two specific hours in categories 1A, 10 and 12.

Class size is limited to 30 people, and registration is required. To register, visit https://wheatgreenup2018.eventbrite.com. This training will be held rain or shine, so participants will need to dress accordingly. Lunch is provided.

The UKREC Farm is located at 1205 Hopkinsville Street in Princeton.

For additional information or help with registration, contact Kelsey Mehl at 270-365-7541 ext. 200 or kelsey.mehl@uky.edu.
