"One new thing we are doing is testing different seeded Bermuda and Zoysia grasses and we have a number of those plots on display this year," said A.J. Powell, UK Extension turf specialist.

"I have been training agents for over seven years and this was the most integrated group of agents I have dealt with," noted Steve Issacs, Extension farm management specialist in the UK College of Agriculture.

Doug McLaren said the hands-on experience students get at camp is extremely valuable since these students will be future leaders in the forestry field.

"It's important to consider several factors when using a postemergence herbicide to manage weeds in corn and soybean crops. These include the size and type of weed, crop growth stage, and interaction of the herbicide with the environment," said J.D. Green.

"The conference definitely charges people up," Danielle Hutchins, Nelson County 4-H member

"Camp this year was special because it was the first time the eight of us– three aunts, their only daughters, my mother and me– were together at this camp." Lisa Kelly of Campbell County first attended the Fun, Food and Fitness Camp in 1993.

"A key to profitability with these crops is to know which varieties perform best under the growing conditions in a particular area." Terry Jones is an Extension horticulturist at Robinson Station, a UK College of Agriculture research facility near Quicksand.

"A key part of this program is that each participant makes a personal decision about what steps, if any, they're going to take toward better health." Janet Tietyen, Extension Food and Nutrition specialist.

"With the advent of float beds, producers are able to get tobacco crops into the ground much earlier... and that usually means the weather is likely to be much dryer at curing time." Gary Palmer, Extension tobacco specialist.
