Published on Oct. 28, 2011
The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture Robinson Center for Appalachian Resource Sustainability (RCARS) is offering Introduction to Beekeeping in its next installment of the Mountain Monday Series Nov. 14.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. EST at the center’s auditorium in Jackson. The Introduction to Beekeeping program is for those who have never managed honeybees but are interested in learning how. Participants will learn about common equipment and practices and how to prepare to begin a beekeeping venture in 2012.
Shawn Wright, a horticulture extension specialist at RCARS, will lead the program and cover topics such as educated buying decisions, locating sites for hives, what beekeepers need to get started and what is optional. Participants also will receive information about what works in today’s beekeeping environment and leave with several sources of reliable beekeeping information and a list of future workshops.
For more information or to register, contact Jackie Allen, RCARS business manager, at 606-666-2438, ext. 285.
The Mountain Monday Series is the second Monday of each month. The series also will stream live on the Internet at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/mountainmonday. The December installment will focus on beginning quilting.
