PRINCETON, Ky.—

The University of Kentucky Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and Cooperative Extension Service will offer two field tour events on July 22 at its UK Research and Education Center at Princeton. The Corn, Soybean and Tobacco Field Day will be held on Tuesday morning, and the Beef and Forage Field Day will begin following a shared lunch.

“As the Research and Education Center marks its 100th anniversary this year, we saw this milestone as a meaningful opportunity to welcome more regional farmers to Princeton and highlight the impactful research and extension education taking place at these facilities,” said Chad Lee, UK professor and director of the Grain and Forage Center of Excellence, headquartered at UKREC.

Wagons will roll at 8 a.m. CDT for the corn, soybean and tobacco field tour. Morning visitors will hear the grain crops agronomics and economics session, which includes updates on markets, weed science, soybean foliar fungicides, corn fertilization and an economic climate Q&A session. Visitors may also choose a session that covers topics related to tobacco or grain crop soils and Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund, Altria Client Services, Kentucky Corn, Kentucky Soybean Promotion Board, Kentucky Forage and Grassland Council and Kentucky Beef Network are supporting the wagon transportation and a complimentary lunch for all participants.

The afternoon beef and forage tour will include a session at the forage plots for discussions on pests, using red clover to mitigate tall fescue toxicosis, summer annual mixtures and variety trials. Once visitors are transported to the beef facilities, they will be provided information on mineral feeding design, smart scales and winter feeding systems.
